His training is part of the reason. Ben holds licenses in both barbering and cosmetology, in multiple states, a combination that gives him a broader understanding of texture, density and growth pattern. Over more than seventeen years and four barbershops of his own, starting in Janesville, Wisconsin, he has learned how each hair type responds to clippers, shears and razor.

In practice, that range looks like this: a skin fade on coily hair, a scissor-blended taper on straight hair, waves set up on a short crop, a tidy line-up beside locs, and beards shaped to match their natural curl. Ben's commitment to every client goes back to his early shops, where he gave free haircuts to kids at the Boys and Girls Club and to youth at a detention center.
